Candace Kenyon

Candace Kenyon, a seasoned orthopedic physical therapist with over 32 years of experience, began her journey with Santa Fe Sports Med and Rehab in 2012. In 2017, she acquired the business, further cementing her dedication to providing exceptional care. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a Master’s degree, Candace specializes in spine, hip and shoulder treatments. Beyond her professional pursuits, she finds solace and inspiration in her art studio, accompanied by her beloved rescue cat and dog. As a passionate advocate for women’s basketball, Candace’s love for the sport was cultivated during her time playing for the U.S. Navy and a small college in California. Proud to call Santa Fe, New Mexico, home, she cherishes the vibrant community and picturesque landscapes that surround her, unable to envision living anywhere else.

David Gerstel

David Gerstel is in his 30th year as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist. Previously, he owned three clinics in Colorado Springs, specializing in outpatient orthopedics, manual therapy, sports medicine, performance development, cancer rehabilitation and aquatic therapy. He also has experience as a Director of Rehab and Lead PT in Tucumcari, NM. David was a PT trainer for USA Judo for the Beijing Olympics, training one athlete to achieve the national championship, gold at the Pan Am games and to become an Olympian for the first time. He also loves to treat total joints, pre- and post-surgical knees, shoulders, hips and ankles, as well as all aspects of orthopedic physical therapy. Passionate about his profession, David strives to produce superior outcomes for his patients, maximizing their functions. David has two children whom he adores. He loves hiking, working out, nature photography, travel and martial arts.

Grace Grogan

A recent transplant to Santa Fe, Grace Grogan is a new physical therapist at Santa Fe Sports Medicine and Rehab. She embraces the opportunity to work with local patients and experience the culture. Grace graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 2014 with a DPT. Since then, she has practiced in Kentucky and Florida as an outpatient physical therapist. She is certified in dry needling and diagnostic (musco-skeletal) ultrasounds, concussions, vestibular rehabilitation, as well as return-to-sport for high-level athletes. She particularly loves to treat knees and shoulders. She currently use an Esaote XL Ultrasound to assess neuromuscular/skeletal conditions.

Esther Coker

Esther Coker graduated from Texas Women’s University with her doctorate in physical therapy in 2010. She worked for the inpatient spinal cord injury team and traumatic brain injury team for several years within the Harris County Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. She then moved to Santa Fe and now focuses on orthopedic and neuro outpatients. Esther is a junior Olympian and enjoys hiking and skiing in her spare time.

Melanie Buren

Melanie Buren has been a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant since 1990. She has worked in all therapy settings, including orthopedic/sports rehab, acute care, work hardening, pain management, skilled nursing and home health care. Melanie was formerly a competitive bodybuilder, which inspired her to establish and run a successful business as a Personal Trainer for more than 25 years. During that time she also practiced as a massage therapist, specializing in Myofascial Release and Neuromuscular Therapy, which she has used extensively both in Physical Therapy and Personal Training. Melanie’s passion in PT has always been with Outpatient Orthopedic Rehab. She has two four-legged children whom she adores. She loves watching movies, and although she loves the beautiful outdoors of New Mexico, her preference with exercising is still lifting weights.

Serena Apodaca

Serena Apodaca, the dedicated Office/Billing Manager, joined our team in 2017. She brings years of experience and leadership. With her expertise, she skillfully navigates any questions you may have. Beyond her professional role, Serena is a loving mother of two girls, adding a personal touch to her multifaceted life. Her passion for helping people shines through both in her professional and personal endeavors.

Christine Vigil

Our Assistant Manager Christine Vigil has been a valued member of our team since 2018. With a strong work ethic and exceptional leadership skills, she plays a vital role in our success. Outside the office, Christine is a proud parent of two wonderful kids, balancing her professional and family life with grace.

Beck Madsen

Beck Madsen has had a variety of experiences in the medical community, as an EMT Basic, helping the less fortunate and front desk positions at medical offices. He has always had a deep desire to help people, so he continues to seek out such careers. Beck has always had a love for adventure and travel, which is how he ended up settling in Santa Fe. He loves the culture and the cuisine, as well as the people. He is a proud father to a son and two furry kids. He enjoys travel, photography, gaming and streaming in the online community, with a focus on advocacy for all walks of life.
